  1. I am very saddened to hear about this story. As a resident of 117th street and parent of a child the same age, I’ve been appalled by the truck traffic that comes down 117th between First and Pleasant avenues. As I understand, the truck was turning from 117th onto First avenue when this accident happened. Before the East River Plaza opened, children actually played ball in the street and there was no truck traffic on this small street. There are many schools in this area. These trucks should be rerouted to 116th street. How can we advocate to get this changed for the safety of the neighborhood children? At the very least, there should be speed bumps on 117th street to prevent the trucks, taxis, livery cabs and other mall traffic from speeding down 117th. Thanks in advance for contacting me. I would be happy to go to the Community Board or your office or to whomever can address this issue, if pointed in the right direction. Marie Winfield 347-259-0889
