Come See a Screening of the Apple Pushers and a Panel Discussion with Melissa

On Tuesday, March 20 at 6 PM, come see The Apple Pushers, a new documentary written and directed by Mary Mazzio and narrated by the actor Edward Norton about immigrant pushcart vendors in the NYC Green Cart Initiative. This program by the NYC Department of Health increases the availability of fresh fruits and vegetables in New York’s food desserts. Many vendors are recent immigrants pursuing the American Dream in their new homes. The movie shares their stories while looking at the issues of obesity, healthy food, immigration and entrepreneurship.

The screening will take place at the CUNY School of Public Health at Hunter College , 2180 3rd Avenue (between 118th and 119th Streets) starting with a reception at 6pm. The screening and panel discussion with Melissa, Sean Basinski, the Founder and Director of the Street Vendor Project; Karen Karp, President of Karp Resources; and moderated by Professor Charles Platkin of the CUNY School of Public Health will follow promptly at 6:30.
